Calling all readers!
North Norfolk Pride wants you to meet someone very special.
Sylvia Townsend Warner lived in the North Norfolk village of Salthouse in the 1950s. She and her lover Valentine Ackland had an open lesbian relationship that lasted for over 30 years until Valentine died of breast cancer in 1969.
Both women were poets. Sylvia Townsend Warner is widely regarded as one of the best authors of her day. Not only that but she was an accomplished musician and historian and never went to school having been taught at home by a succession of tutors and her father – also an eminent historian.
We would like to introduce you and the wider world to the amazing work of this duo. Click here for a reading list of the works published by Sylvia Townsend Warner (including several published after her death in 1978). We’d like you to sample a few of them and let us know what you think. Which ones did you like? Why?
e-Mail us at info@northnorfolkpride.org.uk to let us know what your favourite passages are, which book or poem you enjoyed the most and generally any other bits and pieces of trivia that you can as we would like to use your comments in a exhibition in July 2011
