Pieter discussed the results of the
questionnaire. The results will be published on the web-site as well
as in a leaflet which will be made available for the OUT140
exhibition.
Vince introduced the OUT140 exhibition
(part of the Coast arts festival - Cromer). Specifically the OUT140
exhibition will be hosted at Merchant's Place in Cromer from 23
October to 31 October. There will be a launch party on 22 October
(17:00-19:00) and everyone is invited. To conclude the exhibition
there will be “taking down party” on 31 October (14:00-16:00)
which will feature the Norwich Pride Choir.
Kate said she would see if she could
get literature from the police and the council regarding services
they offer specifically aimed at the gay community, to be displayed
at the event.
Pieter will contact Fi at Ten to see if
they had any appropriate literature as well.
Pieter promised to get abbreviated
copies of the survey results ready in time for the event. He will
provide a posting box. The banners, spare questionnaires and contact
cards will be delivered to Alex who would liaise with Vince re
setting up the exhibition.
Pieter will promote Vince to group
administrator on Facebook and show Alex how to update the website,
should the need arise.
Alex will provide a summary of a
document from central government which may be of interest to the
group and members of the public.
Alex and Jonny presented the draft
wording for the North Norfolk Pride Charitable Objectives (a
preliminary step in setting out a constitution for the group). One
minor alteration was suggested . Alex proposed the document, it was
seconded by Trudy and the group voted unanimously to adopt the
document (and alteration). Kate and Jonny did not vote because of
their professional involvement. The wording adopted is as follows:
'The promotion of equality and
diversity for the public benefit in the North Norfolk area by working
to eliminate discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation or
gender identity and cultivating and enhancing public sentiment in
favour of equality and diversity through public and community events,
campaigns and the production of educational an informational
materials.
The promotion of social inclusion for
the public benefit in the North Norfolk area, by working to prevent
people from being socially excluded through discrimination on the
grounds of their sexual orientation or gender identity and relieving
the needs of those people who find themselves socially excluded on
these grounds.'
Vince introduced the Candlelit Vigil
against hate crime campaign. This campaign falls on the 23 October
(co-incidentally the same day as the start of the Coast arts
festival). Vince suggested we arrange a vigil to be held either in
Sheringham or Cromer. He, Kate and Alex will arrange a location.
Pieter offered to prepare leaflets and posters which could be
e-mailed to the group so that they could print and distribute it
within the community. Kate will see if the event could be covered in
the next edition of Outlook and Vince and Alex will try encourage
local newspapers to run the story before and after the event.
The location for the vigil was
finalised as follows:
Lifeboat Plain, Sheringham (or
Oddfellows Hall if the weather is bad). Saturday 23 October, 19:30

Minutes of meeting: 07/09/2010
Present: Vince, Trudy, Pieter, Ruth,
Jill, Kate, Jonny, Jan, Alex, Colin, Gordon, Shelly & Martin
Jill introduced us to the role of the
Police Liason Officer.
Vince & Shelly discussed the
up-coming OUT 140 exhibition at Merchant's Place, Cromer (launch
party Friday, 22nd October. The event runs until 31st
October). The group resolved to prepare an action plan at the next
meeting where we might integrate and support with the event. Amongst
the ideas discussed were : possible involvement of local artists to,
for example, paint the opening ceremony (Trudy & Alex); closer
involvement of the Little Theatre in Sheringham (Alex to liaise with
Shelly); alternate places to hang the scarf if the weather was bad
(everyone to come up with suggestions of alternate venues).
We briefly discussed the success of the
questionnaires. Pieter resolved to collect all remaining
questionnaires as close to the next meeting as possible and to
extract some information from the data gathered for presentation at
the next meeting. Kate indicated that some of the regions larger
employers: NNDC, NHS, etc should be contacted to see if they would
take copies of the questionnaire. Many people resolved to distribute
the questionnaires more widely.
Jonny discussed the future of the group
– specifically the need to formalise the association through the
establishment of a constitution which would ultimately enable us to
collect funds. Alex, Jan & Jonnie resolved to discuss the
alternatives between themselves and present the group with a synopsis
and various alternatives at the next group. Jill advised that we
separate the establishment of the constitution from other matters as
it was likely to take some time to resolve. She also suggested that
the constitution should be constructed with flexability and future
growth in mind and that a short-term alternative would be to
formalise a “Mission Statement” which could be broadened at a
later stage to a full constitution.
It was agreed that these minutes would
be published and that Pieter would set up and circulate an agenda for
the next meeting. The proposed points for the next meeting are:
- Results of the questionnaire
- OUT 140
- The constitution
- Any other matters
