Cromer Beach, Sunday 31st July 2011

  • 11:30 - 16:30 - Cromer BBQ Beach (below North Park Lodge).
Join us for light entertainment, the World's Largest Triominoes Tournament and the opportunity to relax at the biggest, gayest beach chill-out in Norfolk!
  • 18:00 onwards - join us at the Red Lion Pub in Cromer for a fund-raising variety show featuring more popular acts.  Only £5 a ticket!

Beach Event:

Location:

Cromer is a popular seaside resort on the North Norfolk coast (UK) with plenty of hotels (like Virginia Court and the Red Lion Pub), B&Bs and eateries.

If the weather is favourable, the Beach Chill-Out will take place on Cromer Public BBQ Beach (below North Park Lodge, or between the Rocket House Café/RNLI Henry Blogg Museum and the Beach huts - north of the Pier).

If the weather is unfavourable a trimmed down selection of events will take place at the Red Lion Pub (Brook Street, Cromer) just a short walk away from the beach location.

Getting There:

Cromer is easily accessible from Norwich by bus or rail.  Sunday trains leave Norwich at 36 minutes past the hour (from 08:36 to 20:36) and leave Cromer at 52 minutes past the hour (from 09:52 to 21:52)[1].
The Beach Chill-Out zone is an easy 15-20 minute walk from the train station.

[1] Train times noted are the earliest times.  Times may be between 2 and 9 minutes later than the regular pattern.  Journey times vary.  Please see the train operators for more details.

Parking:

There are several car-parks in Cromer, but none immediately close to the Beach Chill-Out zone.  Click here for a list of car parks managed by the North Norfolk District Council, or here.  Be aware that the parking at Meadow Road has a maximum time limit of 3 hours and is patrolled on Sundays.

The Cromer Road Runner travels to and from the Runton Road Car Park to the Pier (£2.00 per Adult per Round Trip).  See www.cromerroadtrain.co.uk for more details.

Entertainment:

Still some work to do on the final list of acts, but the event will be opened by Norman Lamb (MP) and will feature the Sing with Pride (Norwich Pride Choir) and the Norwich Samba Band.  Box Clevr will provide some musical entertainment and Hilary Koe & Paul Knight will be presenting their own brand of humor.  Vince Laws will compére an open mic session (5 minutes at a time) so if you fancy yourself a bit of talent, give it a go - click here to let us know what you want to do.

We're also proud to host the Largest Triominoes Tournament® in the World.  Played with our fabulous oversized pink triangle pieces, this game will bring out the best (or worst) of you!  Never heard of Triominoes - think of dominoes but triangular in shape: each piece you put down has to match 2 numbers.  (Click here to view our tournament rules).

Mayor Greg Hayman will hand out prizes and close the day at 16:00.

During the day the North Norfolk Pride will have stalls featuring goodies and delights at the Red Lion Pub

Don't forget our fabulous variety show planned to start at 18:00 at the Red Lion - tickets only £5 each!

Access

Lift access to the beach via RNLI Henry Blogg Museum/Rocket House Café, or via steep ramps (The Gangway besides the Henry Blogg Museum and Doctor's Steps).
The beach is a mixture of sand and shingle.
The tide will be out for the most part of the day.

Some dos and donts:

  • Do bring water with you.
  • Bring some sun-screen and sun glasses.
  • Bring some friends, a huge picnic basket and blanket.  If you don't have time to pop a quiche into the oven, the Red Lion Pub is offering a "superior picnic lunch" for £7.95 (includes a ham or cheese sandwich, a slice of home-made cake, an individual quiche, a piece of fruit, crisps and a soft drink).
  • No glass on the beach! Please don't bring any glass or porcelain crockery with you.
  • At this time of the year dogs are not allowed on this section of the beach.

Variety Show:

The In the Pink Variety Show

Hosted by the indestructable Titti T-rash and featuring a galaxy of stars: Box Clevr, Fanny Jam, Headroom, Hilary Koe & Paul Knight.

Doors open at 18:00 and the performance will end at 21:00 - enough time to catch the last train home!  Join us at the Red Lion Pub on 31st July 2011.   Click here for a copy of the poster.

Tickets will cost £5.00 each.  To register your interest e-mail us at info@northnorfolkpride.org.uk.  Alternatively you can book your ticket from WildSounds (£5.00 plus £0.50 bank charges) on 01263 741828.  Your ticket will be available to collect at the door.  You can also purchase your ticket from Virginia Court Hotel or the Red Lion Pub in Cromer.
